Dear Hawaii's Board of Education,
Though adding a 7th period to every Hawaii public high school, could improve a students cumulative grade point average, better preparation for life after highschool, etc. Adding another period could put more stress on the students.
With Moanalua High School ranking 3rd in the state, adding another period could put more stress on the students and cause them to slack. Moanalua, having the most students participating in a OIA sport, their stress could affect how they play and perform. According to teenhelp.com, 78% of teens are stressed because of school work. Not only will this excess amount of stress affect the students mentally but also socially, emotionally, and physically.
High School sets the rode for the rest of a teenagers life and if a teen is struggling and stressing because of the overload of work, it could affect the future of these teens. Stress will make teens less capable of doing anything, from writing a sentence for an essay to throwing a ball in their P.E. class. Lowering their capablilities could affect how much potential students could show to collages, jobs, etc.
High School is meant to lead students not only into their adult life but also the road into finding themselves but with stress, it could be act as an obstacle and slow them down. We only live life once so why would we want any obstacles slowing us down.
Sincerely,
Kainoa Mattos-Felicilda
You need to get your facts down first before you write the letter. Every school has a different schedule we are moving to 7 periods because we dont meet school day time length requirements. You don't explain all of your statements. You dont tell us why it will give us more stress, nor do you tell us why we have to move to 7th period. There is a lot of information missing and it is kind of just an opinionated letter with nothing supported. AS(1)
